Warpling Privacy Policy
The short version
Warpling itself keeps nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics of ours, and no server of ours for anything to be sent to. Everything you put into the app stays on your phone.
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob is Google's service, and it collects some data from your device to show and measure those ads — described under "Ads" below. Warpling Pro turns the ads off: a Pro install never starts the ads SDK at all.
What Warpling stores on your device
All of this lives only on your phone, in the app's own private storage. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and all of it is deleted when you uninstall the app.
| What | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Servers you save (name, address, port, advertised version) | So you can start them again with one tap | App database |
| Which console you picked on first run | To show the right joining instructions | App preferences |
| Session settings (keep listening, auto-stop delay, theme, accent, text scale) | To keep the app the way you set it | App preferences |
| Whether Warpling Pro was purchased | To turn the ads off and show the widget and the full theme set | App preferences, confirmed with Google Play / the App Store |
| When your last watched ad's free window ends | So one ad covers an hour of Starts, or a day of themes | App preferences |
The app declares android:allowBackup="false", so none of this is copied into Android's cloud
backup or transferred to a new device.
What leaves your phone
Three things:
- The server you typed in. Warpling sends a status query and then a game connection to the address and port you entered, exactly as your console would. It talks to that server and nothing else. Your console connects to Warpling over your own Wi-Fi; that traffic never leaves your network.
A purchase, if you make one. Warpling Pro is sold through Google Play Billing on Android and through the App Store on iOS. The purchase is handled entirely by Google or Apple — Warpling never sees a card number, a name or an email address, and it stores only the fact that Pro is owned. That transaction is covered by the store's own terms and privacy policy (Google Play's, or Apple's).
Google Play Billing brings Google's own delivery library (
com.google.android.datatransport) into the app. It is part of the billing library, not something Warpling calls, and Warpling sends nothing through it.- Ad data, in the free version. See "Ads" below.
Ads
The free version of Warpling shows rewarded video ads: one before a Start (after which Starts are free for an hour), and one if you choose to try every theme for a day. They are served by Google AdMob, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google's User Messaging Platform.
When the free version shows or loads an ad, Google may collect: your device's advertising identifier (Android advertising ID, or Apple's IDFA if you allow tracking), your IP address and the approximate location it implies, information about your device and the app, and how you interact with ads. Google uses this to serve, measure and personalise ads and to prevent fraud. Warpling does not receive or store any of it. Google's use is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choices: - Consent. Where the law requires it (the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and some US states), Warpling asks for your consent before any personalised ad is requested, using Google's consent form. You can change your answer at any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices. - iOS tracking. On iPhone, the system asks whether Warpling may track you. If you say no, ads are still shown but are not personalised with your IDFA. - Android advertising ID. You can reset or delete it in your phone's Settings (Privacy → Ads). - No ads at all. Warpling Pro removes the ads; a Pro install never loads the ads SDK.
Ads are limited to content rated Teen or below.
What Warpling never does
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDK of ours.
- No account, no sign-in. Warpling never asks for your Microsoft, Xbox, Sony or Mojang credentials, and could not use them if it had them.
- No location. The app does not request location permissions.
- No contacts, no photos, no microphone, no camera, no files.
Permissions, and what each one is for
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
INTERNET |
Reach the server you typed in |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Tell you when the phone has no network, and diagnose why a console can't see the world |
CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE |
Receive the console's LAN discovery broadcasts on your Wi-Fi |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_CONNECTED_DEVICE |
Keep the LAN world up while you switch to your console; the ongoing notification is always visible |
WAKE_LOCK |
Keep the session alive with the screen off, until your console gets through |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Show that ongoing session notification, with its Stop button |
AD_ID and the ACCESS_ADSERVICES_* permissions (added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK) |
Let AdMob read the advertising ID and Android's privacy-preserving ad APIs, as your choices allow |
A session never starts on its own. There is no boot receiver and nothing scheduled: a session exists only because you tapped Start.
Children
Warpling is not directed at children under 13, and its store listings target ages 13 and up. Warpling itself collects no personal data from anyone. Ads in the free version come from Google AdMob and are limited to content rated Teen or below.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the revised version is published at this same address before the change reaches a release.
